How to get to Lompoc:
Take US 101 west out of Los Angeles. In about two hours you'll be in Santa Barbara. Keep going west of SB, thru the beach state parks (camp out here at one of three state beaches or one private RV park if the state beaches are full).
Stop and have lunch at the rest stop by the Gaviota Pass (can be very windy here). A couple miles north of here are several waterfalls, one in a little county park the other an invigorating hike up the road after parking at the turnoff to Lompoc. This one is actually a hot spring but when we went there wasn't much water and not very deep.
The waterfall at the county park was more fun. It is one of the next two turnoffs north past the Lompoc cutoff. (See your map). Very pretty park and a tall waterfall that probably has a good volume after a rain. You can go under the waterfall into a tiny cave just big enuf for two people to almost stand up in.
Anyway, back to Lompoc: take the turnoff and drive for about 40 minutes and you're in Lompoc! Return the same way, or if coming from the north take Route 1 from the north cutoff.
