    About the OCCSS:

The OCCSS is an affiliate of the Cactus and Succulent Society of America. Members meet monthly sharing information, growing tips, and exchanging plants. Guest speakers describe their world wide travels exploring plants in natural habitats.

We are a local cactus club, dedicated to people interested in growing cactus and succulents. We go on field trips to the desert, and to cactus dealers. Local cactus dealers often show up at the meetings and many people bring in free plants for others.

    Meetings, location:

We meet on the 4th Thursday every month except November and December at the First Presbyterian Church, 11832 Euclid Ave, Garden Grove, CA. The church is north of Chapman and south of Orangewood. A couple miles north of the 22 Garden Grove Freeway, pass city hall and when the road narrows to 2 lanes, keep in right lane and take driveway just past church in to parking lot.

    Meetings typical agenda:

Generally we have an interesting speaker on topics of interest to the club. Slide shows of a trip to Madagascar, or a person who preserves rare plants in Mexico are typical.

Sometimes we will have a potluck before the meeting. Some kind of refreshments are usually served and there is a chat period where you can talk to other hobbyists and admire plants they brought in for the brag table or the 'what is this?' table.

Often we'll have a raffle to raise money for the club, and people often bring in cuttings or plants for others free. Local cactus dealers also often bring in a few plants for sale, and unusual clay cactus pots.

We start the meeting with discussing old then new club business then turn it over to the night's speaker when we're done.

    Field Trips:

The club has informal field trips where groups of members carpool to far away cactus dealers, such as some in Arizona. The club has in the past chartered a bus and taken members up the coast to plant related tourist attractions and cacti/succulent plant dealers as far away as Santa Barbara and Ojai.
In 2000 we visited Joshua Tree Panorama shots of campground 1, 2 and cholla garden
Anza Borrego, the largest state park at 600,000 acres, east of San Diego is also a favorite trip.
