about this page:
- created after various visits, uploaded 7/11/1998; note the following about
page / photos:
- purpose of page is to enable researchers, educational establishments and
individuals to benefit from having reference of specimen photos, and to promote support
and visitation of the zoo
- photos may be reproduced for any non-profit use, commercial users contact
webmaster
- all pictures originals by author
- this is not a comprehensive list of all specimens on display
- some animals may have more than one common name
- the zoo is not primarily designed for photo takers but with the animals in
mind first;
- pictures may be taken under poor lighting or extreme zoom conditions, thru
solid transparent barriers, grates, etc that interfere with the picture taking process;
I've published many of these because I feel that those who cannot attend park may
still want to see any pictures of a rare animal; pictures judged too blurry to show much
of anything have been deleted till I can retake these
- additional zoological pix at SD WAP in Escondido, Living Desert related
sites by DDC
- additional botanical pix in SD Balboa Park, nearby, other areas see
related sites by DDC
- species names when posted match zoo's label of specimens
- when unposted my educated guess of species
- if anyone knows specimen is wrongly labeled please email and will attempt
to fix as soon as I can if I can verify name
- if anyone objects to their being show on site (e.g. animal trainers or
tourists) please email
- some photos showns are animals found wild in zoo habitat, either
freeloading migratory animals such as herons or native fauna on parks buildings or
landscaping such as lizards and some giant beetles I found on botanical specimens
optical aparatus: FD7 10x, PC10 12x w/ DVBK-2000, Pentax w/240 zoom lens,
disposable & other cameras; pix may be from any of these
video clips digitized with allinWonder board
Future directions of this website:
- cross -reference zoological and botanical pix from my sites in a virtual botanic garden
- add additional data fields such as species name where not present now, location within
the zoo (ask zoo personel for now if you want to find a specific specimen listed here);
- zoo of course may stop exhibiting certain specimens for various reasons and aquire new
ones not mentioned here, and I will add new pix from time to time
- I plan to group photos by animal categories, (i.e. reptiles, mammals, etc)
This site designed for the Mother Planet, may she generate life for
generations to come
May she be not alone in this galaxy with billions of stars
